Reiki Healing and its benefits
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us. Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926). There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed. You already have energy in the body but it may be blocked and not flowing smoothly. During or after a treatment, you may feel the effects of energy being unblocked through feelings of heat or cold. This powerful flow of positive energy may bring a near immediate sensation of relief as it releases tension, lessens the impact of stress and replaces negative energy with the positive.
Scientific research using quantum physics is starting to help us to understand how reiki may work to benefit the individual. It has been suggested that in years to come it may be known as energy medicine based on scientifically measurable energy emitted from the healer’s hands. but research is producing very interesting results according to the Reiki Foundation:
- When giving Reiki, practitioners have been shown to emit electro-magnetic or bio-magnetic energy from their hands. The frequencies of the energy emitted vary from one moment to the next; but many appear to correspond to those that medical researchers have identified as being the optimum frequencies for stimulating the healing process in tissues, bones and other body parts so far investigated.
- The bio-magnetic energy (or field) flowing from a practitioner’s hands has been shown to induce current flows in the tissues and cells of individuals who are in close proximity but this pulsing energy is not produced by non-practitioners of energy healing techniques.
How Reiki can help you
- by encouraging relaxation and bringing balance to both mind and emotions
- by creating greater inner harmony and balance, regular Reiki treatments promote a calmer response to life’s challenges
- by working effectively alongside orthodox healthcare and natural remedies, expanding treatment options
What to expect in a Reiki session
You will be seated in a chair or may lay on a therapist couch in a quiet setting where you are not disturbed. You will remain fully clothed and an extra blanket for warmth will be offered. Soft music will be played during the session unless you would prefer silence. For the next 40-45 minutes you simply relax whilst the Reiki Practitioner places their hands on a series of locations on the head and front and back of the torso. The placement of the hands will never be intrusive or inappropriate, nor will there be any pressure.
The experience of Reiki is different for every client and often very subtle. People often experience heat in the practitioner's hands, but sometimes the practitioner's hands feel refreshingly cool. Other common experiences are tingling sensations where the practitioner's hands are placed or cascading waves of relaxation throughout the body. Put simply you should feel enveloped in love and warmth.
After the session, the Practitioner will ask you how you feel and what they may have felt whilst carrying out the Reiki Healing.
Indian Head Massage and its benefits
Indian head massage has been used in Asia for over 5,000 years and works specifically on the area surrounding the head, scalp, face, neck, shoulders and upper back. Indian head massage comes from Ayurveda, an ancient method involving natural therapies, which takes into account mind, body and spirit. (Federation of Holistic Therapists)
An Indian head massage usually lasts for approximately 30-45 minutes
By applying pressure to points in the upper back, arms and shoulders muscles and knots can be released. Massage is also applied to the neck and head to encourage better circulation of the cerebral fluid, and increase nourishment and oxygen to the brain, scalp and hair follicles. The gentle, but firm massage stimulates and improves lymphatic drainage and blood flow to the neck, upper back, arms and shoulders thus helping to remove waste products from the body.
This wonderful therapy both stimulates the body and slows us down. During the treatment, sensual awareness takes over, busy minds relax a variety of physical and emotional problems and concerns can melt away. Here are just a few benefits of Indian Head Massage:
